Indie Book Store Spotlight - Brick & Mortar Books, Redmond WA

By Amanda Helander

Like many of you, there’s nothing I hate more than giving my money to known sex deviant James Daunt. So where do I go for the latest and greatest in Books if I don’t want to support B&N? Luckily for me, there’s Brick & Mortar Books in Redmond, WA.

Conveniently located 15 minutes from my house, Brick & Mortar is a small but robustly stocked bookstore run by true, diehard lovers of literature. The store got its start after the Redmond area lost our beloved Borders. Then the founders of Brick & Mortar read about Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, opening an independent bookstore in Massachusetts. The Brick & Mortar crew set out to do the same thing right here in Redmond. And now, they’ve been serving the local bookish community for over 20 years.

Brick & Mortar’s collection of books is impeccably curated by its staff, who are expert booksellers, readers, and even authors themselves. The shelves are stocked with critically acclaimed, best-selling authors like Vaishnavi Patel, Victor Manibo, and Anita Kelly.

But perhaps my favorite part of Brick & Mortar’s brick-and-mortar store is the Wall of Autographs. Dozens of visiting authors and illustrators have signed their names on this column. Can you spot any of your faves?

Thank you, Brick & Mortar Books, for your continued dedication to the bookish community and your tireless efforts in the fight against James Daunt and his bafflingly public perversions.
